One and a half
hi all, I'm tired of swiping up, down, across on an iPad's for Audirvana Remote. I would prefer a mouse driven, keyboard input rather than sub optimal iPad quirky human interface. I like to browse while listening, and the swiping is really starting to annoy, such as half swipe up, or completely swipe up, quick access, swipe down right hand corner, enough! Can any of the new m series Macbooks install Audirvana Remote? If not, I can remote Desktop to the Windows machine to change the settings and select music, but would rather use the Audirvana Remote. The Computer Audiophile
I will test this. I have several of the other remote apps on my Macs and I suspect this one will work just as well. Founder of Audiophile Style | My Audio Systems Link to comment
The Computer Audiophile
OK, I spent a little time this morning testing it. I had some trouble getting Audirvana remote to find the computers running Audirvana Studio on my network, so I just launched both the remote and desktop app on the same machine. The remote experience on a Mac is a bit underwhelming. The app is made for iOS devices and that's about it. The window can't be resized larger and the views appear to be hard coded. Here's a sample of the new albums on Tidal. I wish I could view larger album covers in something other than a list format, but I don't think I can in the app on Mac. Just another data point: - The remote app on my MacBook had no trouble finding Audirvāna running on my desktop immediately. - I was able to maximize the app window and return it to its previous size in the normal MacOS way, clicking the green button. I didn’t try to resize the window beyond that. - I didn’t see a way to resize album covers with the current remote, but I believe the new remote that’s in beta testing has that ability IIRC. One and a half
Thanks all, it depends then, I take it that @Jud and @The Computer Audiophile have Sonoma installed? On my mac mini, the System settings looks very much like iOS, with categories all over the place, I suppose that's sorted by relevance.... I'm keen to use the MacBook instead of the PC, since the 4k screen for a PC is a jump of several hundreds of $, whereas the Retina on the MacBook is good enough for what I need at 2k. Looks like Audirvana Remote can be installed, @Jud, the resizing of the album covers was not that much to begin with on iOS. Cover Art can take up the whole page just about, but you need to tap into the track played. I see JPLAY can be installed as well on Mac with Sonoma, but I might try that sw in another year again, I found stability a bit so-so and the layout OK (ish), Audirvana remote is a easier on the eye and can't beat the SQ. Will certainly look out for the official Audirvana Remote release once the latest beta is superseded. Jud 1 AS Profile Equipment List Say NO to MQA Link to comment

Popular Post One and a half
Finally decided to buy the Air m3 and arrived today. Audirvana remote connects fine and opens, although the App store doesn't guarantee it working on Mac. One caveat: The app needs to mimic the ipad operation to be set to portrait mode, so all songs from an album can be viewed, in landscape only 10 tracks are visible. To view more albums like scrolling, click and drag is the way to go. Settings are viewable by click and drag to see all settings. The window cannot be resized, which is not a big deal for me. If you switch to album view, then back to say Recently added, the position of the last screen is remembered. You can switch to the ipad, if you wish by one mouse click in the View options in the Audirvana menu bar. The screen takes up 1/4 of the screen, so background processes can appear at the same time. I can live with this. Now to get the m3 to recognise the Logitech m555b mouse, what an embarrassment. A newer MX anywhere 3S works straight off the bat. Might try jplay a bit later on. One and a half
JPlay works, just like on the iPad. The problems of updating are the same, Minimserver needs a rescan which is quick, but adding new audio takes a while. Updating is very much a manual affair, with Audirvana it's automatic and very fast. If there's a short cut, am willing to give it a shot. As far as operating on MacOS that's a side issue, main concept is that JPLAY works on MacOs. AS Profile Equipment List Say NO to MQA Link to comment

One and a half
Update Audirvana Remote on Mac has a few niggles living with these nuisance behaviours for a few months now. These are: a) If the Mac goes to sleep and awaken, Audirvana remote doesn't refresh well, it can't search a thing. Restart to fix. b) If new albums are added while the remote is on, new albums are displayed. Restart to fix. c) The Albums view has the Alphabet on the right hand side of the screen. It starts at [ ABCDEFGHIJWKL..... (The main app does this too, it's a problem in Audirvana, had this before, can't remember what to do, reinstall) d) IF you do select G for example, albums are shown with artists starting with G in their name (Gabrielle chiaro, Gary Wright example) rather than the title, 'Greatest hits'..... e) yes, the screen can't be resized (not a real problem, is a nuisance at times). f) Doesn't pickup pdfs or additional jpgs in the folder to view. Roon does, but I'm not going there ever again. OK. If the application Microsoft Remote desktop is used, search does not accept any searches using the SPACE BAR, like 'LED Zeppelin' search display jams. The screen refreshes weird, darker lighter ad infinitum. If I remote in from a Windows PC, audirvana is fine, search accepts space. JPLAY Issues a) The title block in the album shows the date as 01 Jan 2024 if the metadata has '2024'. Minimserver would report errors in the date field, I found it complained less with just the year in the date field. b) Added albums always require Minimserver restart scan, then scan the library again. c) The recently added tab is not when the library was updated, bit of a dog's breakfast. The 2nd item is why I don't use JPLAY, goes through the whole library twice, once for Minimserver, once for itself. Minimserver scan is quick, but Jplay takes several minutes and doesn't update at start of the program. Total albums is 10379. AS Profile Equipment List Say NO to MQA Link to comment
