Suggestion on speaker cables from an objective standpoint

Recommended Posts

I was comparing these to some Naim NACA-5 cable so it was not a fair comparison. I even did DIY with heavy duty extension cords for like wood shop. It was better but not as good as the Naim.

I did go to a DIY audio event and those gents were nice but hard core through and through.

Just some speakers I have had in the past. A pair of Snell J's, and of course, the obligatory, Vandersteen 2Ci's with stands. The Snell's were polite and balanced. I am not going to mention the Celestion Connosseur C7's that were the best sounding of the lot of them.

A bit of an update and perhaps a question for everyone. After “burning in” (I know this is an objective thread) my Supra quadrax speaker cables for roughly 100 hours in my bedroom set up, I put the speaker cables with my main system set up. I was not expecting major changes to the sound but I am finding the system sounding bright and fatiguing (almost irritating).

what would be the objective explanation of this ?

these are the cables I replaced

Possibly the moving of them from one system to the other ... :). People may like the concept that the materials used in the manufacture of cables are completely benign, but IME this is never the case - electrical noise can be generated when the parts of the cable construction have tension introduced, in the process of bending the cable to fit the new path, and attaching; and the strands in the conductors are shifted slightly from their previous position - new metal to metal contact points are made. In simple terms, a new "burning in" now has to occur, as the materials stabilise in their new arrangement.

If you don't touch anything now, and note how the sound changes over some days or weeks, you might hear the bright, fatiguing, irritating quality slowly fade, as the factors causing the electrical noise settle down.

Thanks, the new cables are in place now so if that's what it takes to reburn in the cable. I did have to bend the cables a bit to fit the new path as they are heavy and stiff and as thick as garden hose!! 😂
