Also seems to lose connection requiring a reboot of the opticalRendu if I switch tracks quickly. Using it as a Roon endpoint only.

I have an ultraRendu running v2.9 and running NAA as an hqplayer endpoint only. I get occasional stoppages in playback if I switch tracks quickly, especially if the bit rate is different, i.e., going from 44.1k to 48k material. The only fix is to reboot the ultraRendu.

I dug a little deeper into this when the stops happen and found some interesting clues. The relevant details have been sent to Sonore.

I don't know if it's exactly the same problem but occasionally I have crashes when using Roon + HQP with the OR, it gives a warning “Roon has lost connection with the device” and just comes back by doing a full reset. This happened with UR 2.7 and 2.8 and it happens with OR in version 2.8. I realize that most of the time it happens when I change tracks within a few seconds of playing a song. I don't know where the problem is, whether in the network, in the OR or in the Matrix spdif.

I noticed exactly the same problem with firmware 2.9. When changing tracks with different bitrates.

I know in the past if using Roon I've had to change the resync time (in Roon). But that was with a microRendu 1.4 on OS2.8 running in bridge mode to an older all in one, so who knows.

For me using an ultraRendu on v2.9, I get random stopages but infrequently. Seems on quick rate changes 44 - 48k for example. I can't reproduce it easily.

Noting that USB code is one of the big changes with v2.9 I logged on to the ultraRendu and ran dmesg which showed usb connection issues at the time of my stopages.

dmesg from ultraRendu:

[21567.703212] usb 2-1.1: clock source 41 is not valid, cannot use

[21577.964577] usb 2-1.1: 1:0: usb_set_interface failed (-110)

[21583.084261] usb 2-1.1: 1:0: usb_set_interface failed (-110)

[21588.204073] usb 2-1.1: uac_clock_source_is_valid(): cannot get clock validity for id 41

Whether this output matters I'm not sure, but seems interesting.

This is very helpful. Can you post the PID and VID for your DAC?

I noticed that lately no multiplier of 48k material will pass through to my dac. The only thing that has changed in my system has been the upgrade to sonicorbitor 2.9. My streamed and local music is played via Euphony and Roon through an Etheregen to an Opticalrendu to a Denafrips Hermes DDC to My Terminator 2 Dac via I2S. The 48k material shows that it is playing/ outputting in Roon or Euphony however the bitrate indicators on my Hermes and Terminator DAC show no change when the material changes from 44k to 48k material. The work around has been to upsample all 48k multiplier material to a 44 k multiplier. I suspected the issue is with the OpticalRendu based on the presented evidence and sent an inquiry email to Sonore about a  month or so ago asking if they had seen anything similar. Unfortunately and surprisingly, I must add, I got zero response. I have been meaning to isolate this issue and confirm my suspicions but my schedule has not allowed for it. I have been watching the threads here on AS to see if anyone has had similar issues and the more this thread develops the more I feel I am having related issues with my OR brought on by the upgrade to OS 2.9. In my inquiry to Sonore I asked if there was a way to roll back to 2.8 to see if this solves the issue but again they didn't respond. Can anyone here answer if a roll back is possible? Would be as simple as inserting the old SD card?

Yep. Insert the old one.

Yep, just use the old one. I did this with my mR when the card went corrupt recently - went back to 2.7 from 2.8 (though I'm no longer using the mR).  I'd just be sure to power down the oR from the web access page first.

I give rebooting into 2.8 a try see if this fixes the problem. I will report back. Thank you.

You all have Denafrips. I have a possible solution we may be able to try later this week

Thanks. In my case, using a Denafrips Pontus II and UltraRendu, the issue is rare. In fact, it's been running nicely for the past several days. Occasionally I will try to trigger the problem, but can't.

An update.

After about a week of no problems I had another playback stoppage. This was when I stopped 44.1k material and started 48k material from Qobuz.

Logging on to the ultraRendu, I saw the same kernel message as previously:

usb 2-1.1: clock source 41 is not valid, cannot use

uac_clock_source_is_valid(): cannot get clock validity for id 41

Restarting networkaudiod (NAA) did not fix it, rebooting the UltraRendu did.

HQplayerOS -> UltraRendu NAA -> Denafrips Pontus II

Switched back to 2.8 this weekend. No issues running any 48k material without upsampling.

It's difficult to find a pattern when interruptions happen, sometimes weeks go by without them occurring, yesterday it happened 3 times in a few hours.

@vortecjr, is it normal for the OR to identify the Matrix as a DAC?

It's always been like this around here, even with the UR, my DAC is a PS Direcstream.

My path is Roon - HQplayer - OR - Matrix - Direcstream.

Have as well some interruptions since the 2.9, especially with 48k based material (24/96 PCM last weekend)… sometimes there is a quite random 2 to 3s timeout and music is playing again, sometimes it crashes. in these cases, my OR is loosing connection to my Gustard U18 DDC and I need to reboot the OR.

i hope you’ll be able to find the root causes, as it is becoming annoying and I’m struggling not to rollback to 2.8.

The issue in your case appears to be different as you describe it as random. The others are having issues when playback starts. I would try 2.8 for a while.
