  1. I guess in the end the market will care about what it cares about - and get what it wants (as long as there are engineers and producers available to step up). Most people seem to have little or no trouble recognising that Bowie was the driver and team leader behind everything that emanated from him. Having re-viewed the video at 41:35, Ken says David Bowie said "has to be" (original person/people involved in future work). Sounds peremptory from the Horse's Mouth - but also a bit He Said She Said. It was also interesting and possibly relevant how Ken talked about the David Bowie Estate. Plenty of people think that Bowie mistreated the Spiders including recompense. I wonder if the Estate is similarly "rigorous". I know people who adore Bowie - I'm not one of them. But I'm unashamedly ardent about Mick Ronson as an Artist/Guitarist. Studio version of "The Width Of A Circle" is on the Album 'The Man Who Sold The World'. This Live recording was afaik not long before Spiders' last performance 1973 (controversial as Bowie "sacked" them on stage): Also here's "Five Years" from BBC 'Old Grey Whistle Test' 1972 - Mick Ronson on piano this time.
  2. Watched the whole Ken Scott & Emre Ramazanoglu video. Thanks for posting. Most engaging, educational, informative. I can see why you recommended it as suitable viewing for all. I was just thinking about a synoptic thought/remark - whilst struck that it is fortunate for Atmos listeners that Ken Scott is around still - and had all his cognitive marbles etc - to undertake this Ziggy project ... and then ... at 41:35 Ken himself says something alone lines of: David [Bowie] told him that if ever there were further work done on his material, it should be done by people involved in the first place. Totally get this - the lending/blending of history and authenticity in to new productions. Without first hand witnesses, surely any creation would be that much drier - indeed lacking in "soul". Trivia: I remember - being aware of Leslie Crowther from "Crackerjack" on UK Childrens' TV - all the teenage chatter in the late 1970s about how Leslie disapproved of his daughter, Caroline, hooking up with Phil Lynott. I guess in those days parents were generally more conservative - and their disapproval could be a little frightening. Sadly Phil Lynott was yet another (in Rock 'n' Roll history) who went the way of early death - at 36 from addiction after his marriage to Caroline, broke down. Ironic in that Crowther, like his own father, was an alcoholic. Having stopped drinking 7 years earlier, Crowther suffered brain injury crashing his Rolls Royce - 4 years before his own death. Barely touching on the trials and tribulations of Ray Charles - nice (if it may be put that way) amalgam of "humanity" in this post!
  3. Here is "Idaho". 1. I don't sit at a desk! 2. Optical cable between listening position and D16 (via eR) runs under floor (transformers etc also hidden). 3. The square composite stone + bespoke feet + top layers rubber/wood/ other isolation constructed table between speakers is DIY for when I get my Technics SL-1000-R. (Behind it is a bunch of other stuff both gear and DIY.) 4. I'm open-minded about changing cherished and suitably maintained Snell Type A III. But I'm not discovering much that would easily best them. Watt Puppy 50th impressed me, but fitting amps would skyrocket overall cost. 5. The Himalayan lava lamps have no effect on SQ - but likely add to "Idaho".
  4. Look? Idaho? Can you help. If I keep my flac Library in my basement, how do I manipulate the Library - on a sizeable screen/keyboard using on the fly fb2k Filters - with no noticeable latency - either to my screen and keyboard at my listening position or to my speakers - and also without incurring unnecessary and superfluous network arrangements. I want to operate as quickly as I think at my listening position. And for music to happen at the speakers as instantly as my desire. That's what I have right now. I think we have established that it's different strokes for different folks. If you know of a non-Dante way to do what is my first prerogative - controlling my own music according to my own will - I'm all ears. If indeed I missed a joke, I kneel before you ... because I love humour. Edit: I already use fiber-direct between PC and D16. And have tried 10G + switch. I gave a full report on the 10G thread. Edit 2: My PC is audibly silent and and receives VIP treatment wrt electrical supply. I have spent years taming it including to min. of W10 Services for RedNet/Dante. Edit 3: Reminder - I am religiously (internet) offline.
  5. Definitely of potential interest to me. I already use a fiber network PCIe card and my Pro Audio DAC has USB input. Thank you for info. I shall watch this space.
  6. D16 AES tbh I'm a 2 ch. guy. I know you are into Atmos and see it as a thing of the future. With music I am more retro-orientated. I don't listen to much recorded after say 1980. Mostly I try to create music in an era-congruent fashion. I like to play 1930s Jazz 78s/ shellac. I like to hear records as I did when I bought them (but on MUCH better equipment than I could afford then) - they are nostalgic to me. Even the 6 or 7,000 CDs I have ripped / tagged up my own way are intended to achieve a facsimile of that with best possible SQ.
  7. Believe it or not I remain here because: 1. The quality of the crowd; and 2. I haven't been permanently banned - yet. I'm honestly sorry you get that sort of thing instead of reasoned objections.
  8. Re headless vs. screen: A phone or tablet at the listening position is no use to me. I need (using a keyboard) to tap in Filter algorithms into fb2k on a decent screen where I can see my music File Explorer style to select Tracks e.g. Rockabilly (where I have stipulated this as genre) from year 1957 I have graded as superlative ('A'). I don't find anybody else's approach odd. Price has nothing to do with it surely. People will spend what they will. I use Dante Virtual Soundcard > ASIO > RedNet Device. The music file is sent from the PC to the RedNet Device > DAC. Yes I would want similar functionality - "direct connection fiber from the PC to the Rendu". I don't stream from the internet. I am completely offline and would die on that hill.
  9. You aren't factoring in the people who who've been been banned, lost interest or sidled away because they have been offended. Of course you won't know the minds of the vast majority of these people. False. I have a problem with precipitous, unjustified snark when I was expecting ordinary conversation. 57 can speak for himself. I need a PC at the listening position to manipulate a large custom-tagged flac Library in foobar2000. Including Play and Playlist functions. The best way to do this - for me to date - afaik - is optical out to RedNet device on Dante network ... thence re-clocker > DAC. Price has nothing to do with it - in that I have spent and would spend many ks to get this right. Actually I was interested to read in your review: The system I used most during this review consisted of a Small Green Computer sonicTransporter i9 (Gen 4) server running Audirvana > copper Ethernet output > switch > optical fiber > Signature Rendu SE Deluxe > USB > dCS Rossini APEX > Constellation Audio Inspiration Preamp and monobocks > Transparent cable > Wilson Audio Alexia V loudspeakers. I guess IF it were possible for me to go foobar2000 (NOT Audirvana) on PC > optical > SR SE > USB > DAC then this Sonore product could be of interest to me. Could I play a track/playlist in foobar2000 on my PC at the listening position via optical to SR SE near my DAC between the speakers?
  10. "making up"? You were given a link - leading to a page where I objected to YOU attacking ME. Not an isolated instance. You are site owner and sole moderator. Fact or fiction. Fact of course. If you abuse that power gradient you shouldn't expect nil response/comment.
  11. Obviously 57's primary point is astonishment that a 4k music server and a 36k DAC haven't covered the bases sufficiently - such that an extra computer might improve things. It's a technical issue. His mentioning the price is relevant because 36k ought to achieve a great deal by any common sense. Pulling your "57 doesn't like prices" rabbit out of your sole moderator hat is just unpleasant power gradient snark. If we spoke like that to you you'd have us on a high horse in a heartbeat. Why not talk to him about what the product under scrutiny can do to assist a relatively expensive DAC. yadda yadda
  12. Strawman We all know this. You haven't any evidence 57 doesn't like prices. Any more than me wrt dCS. I've posted with glee ultra-High End gear from Ascot on your Forum since then - and not to prove a point to you. 57 seems to want to talk about why 2 computers instead of 1 before DAC. That is prima facie a technical matter. Why can't you conduct ordinary conversation without snark.
  13. This is one of your pet snarks. Just as here Total BS. Fake news. Information disorder. "Another fiction".
  14. I've just come back from the UK Hi-Fi Show Live at Ascot. I learned a lot! Klipsch and Blades were on my speaker short list. I was thinking horns because I have my Linn Klimax Twins nicely set up for vertical bi-amp my Snell Type A III, but the Twins struggle with the 12" Snell woofers. I thought high-sensitivity speakers might solve the problem (i.e. the hassle and disruption of having to trade-up power amps since I want to optimise funds for turntable and speakers). I heard the Klipsch Cornwalls. Wasn't impressed. "Dull" is a word I would not not use! I saw the rest of the Klipsch range on "static display" i.e. not hooked up. I was underwhelmed by build quality. They looked like cheap furniture. In the KEF room the Blades were out but not hooked up. They looked elegant and smart. I wasn't taken with the upmarket KEFs playing - can't recall model (plenty of folks sat listening tho'). I still need to hear the Blades. Probably they weren't hooked up because new models tend to get touted at Shows. Blades present similar amp power problem. Linn Solos would work (more W), but Twins won't cut it. [Incidentally Tannoy sounded rubbish. That only leaves JBL for horns. I heard the baby brother of 4367 - and thought not better than my Snells. The speaker that impressed me most was Wilson Watt Puppy - stand out experience. Unlikely I'll stretch myself to those because of the amp implications. Would they work with Kaluga or other Class D? I might end up with ATC Active at this rate.] I thought big Klipsch would come across aesthetically as grand. They didn't to me. fwiw. Just Show chat.
