We recently introduced the Sonore ultraRendu 1.3 and today I'm rebranding it the Sonore ultraRendu Plus.

Here is the back story on the new Sonore ultraRendu Plus. We are actually very pleased with the way the Sonore ultraRendu 1.3 sounds. However, we are going to implimented some changes to the design that make a big difference on the performance of the unit:

1. On the hardware side of things we discovered a much better way to implement our clock injection which has given the unit a huge bump in performance compared to any Rendu before it.

2. On Sonic Orbiter OS v2.9 we figured out a way to lower CPU cycles which results in lower processing, which results in lower overall heat production, and which results in lower noise.

3. We made some improvements to Sonic Orbiter OS v2.9 which helps us help you during support.

4. We made some improvements to Sonic Orbiter OS v2.9 which helps with DACs that were not playing nice with our gear.

*Note that for #2 through #4 if you have Sonic Orbiter OS v2.9 you just need to update your unit via Software Manager.

What does all this mean for Sonore ultraRendu 1.3 orders that already shipped? Email me because you may qualify for a free swap out of your Sonore ultraRendu 1.3 for the new Sonore ultraRendu Plus. It will have the label below the unit as a unique identifier and each will ship with the hardware and software tweaks noted above at no extra cost except for shipping. Some conditions apply for example:

1. You must have bought the unit from SGC or Sonore between certain dates.

2. You must have the order number so we can look it up.

3. The hardware version number of the I/O board most be 1.3.

4. We are asking that you pay for shipping both ways.

5. Quantities may be limited and the offer may be suspended at anytime without notice.

If you have a Signature Rendu SE (cable Ethernet input with USB output) contact us via email for upgrade options.

Availability - We are still working out the logitics and have suspended sales as of today. Please check on this thread for availabilty.

Correct.  The ‘B’ side ports of EtherREGEN Gen2 will be Gigabit capable.

[I say “ports” plural because Gen2 will also have an SFP cage—Gigabit-only—on the ‘B’ side, in addition to 10/100/1000 RJ45 port.  But because we are putting only one channel’s worth of Ethernet signals (SGMII or fiber mode) across our one set of active differential isolators that sit on the “moat” gap, only one of those ‘B’ side ports can be active at a time.  At power-on the EtherREGEN Gen2 will sense if there is an active connection to the SFP cage; if there is it will turn off the RJ45 PHY chip—and the signals at the ‘B’ side SFP cage will be coming directly off our special ultra-low-jitter 10GHz-capable flip-flop. The signal from that port—in a completely power/clocking/data isolated domain—will be so good that for users of endpoints with SFP input (opticalRendu, Lumin X1/P1/U2, HiFi Rose RS130, Taiko, etc.) will likely get better performance by skipping optical SFP transceivers and simply using a short passive Direct Attach Cable (a shotgun pair of special twinaxial wires).]

For this application...cable Ethernet into the ultraRendu.

So as per my original comment, would have been nice for this newer gen Rendu to carry over this true 1000mbs gigabit connection.

i Hope for next product

Ah this is disappointing, why no change to 1000mbps @JohnSwenson

400mbps is fine for stereo of course but my 12ch USB interface prefers 1000mbps otherwise gets occasional pops

The 400Mb through put is a built in aspect of the chosen processor. To change it would require a different processor. This is not as easy as it sounds. The specific processor we currently use has two very specific aspects which is what makes this series work. These two attributes are extremely important for the sound of these products. These processor attributes are extremely rare, making it almost impossible to go with some other processor.

Can we get a little more info on the all-in-one unit?  For example, more details on the power supply?  Is it the same quality as Sonore Audiophile Linear Power Supply?  Thanks!

They incorporate a good low noise power supply, but they are not based on the Sonore power supplies that are hand made in CO.
