To be honest, the PI2AES does not make sense for the HQplayer application, limiting the output to 24/192 with no DSD, which was why I sold it 2 years ago. Link to comment

My DAC doesn't have an AES input, so I don't think upgrading the HAT helps me in this situation. The Wifi extender could certainly work, but it's unfortunate that I'd need it since the Pi has Wifi support... Oh well. I'm going to take another crack at making DietPi work and if I can't I might make do with the extender. I would say there is no point of using any pi hat and limiting the output rate to your dac if you are taking the HQplayer route really. Been there, done that. You would be much better off just go RPI -> USB out to a dac and upsample with HQplayer davide256 and Spacecase 2 Link to comment

Popular Post dericchan1
Folks, all I can say is it’s definitely worth the wait. My initial impression leaving music on through the night playing mostly jazz and classical stuff at pcm 20/1536 - detailed, organic, natural and coherent!! I have had a number of dacs in my bedroom set up over the years - ifi neo idsd, Cayin ru6, mojo 2, Asus xonar muse. The Cyan 2 is by far my favourite dac in my bedroom set up. I could not wait for it to complete its burn in and I can compare with my main dac ifi pro idsd in my main system!!! SwissBear, Moises and bogi 3 Link to comment

I'm looking forward to your comparison in DSD mode. :) If price/performance ratio will be praised in reviews, it may appeal to those who want to spend about $1000 for DAC. That's much wider potential customer base than in the case of several times more expensive DAC models. R2R and discrete DSD solution may make it particularly appealing. i7 11850H + RTX A2000 Win11 HQPlayer ► Topping HS02 ► 2x iFi iSilencer ► SMSL D300 ► DIY headamp DHA1 ► HiFiMan HE-500 Link to comment

Jplay iOS also supports tidal as well. The app is rock solid. Actually I am from Hong Kong but now lives in Canada. Jo from Wildism Audio was excellent helping me and a couple of my friends in Canada for the pre order of Cyan 2, and changed the specs from 220v to 110v for use in Canada, and fast shipment as well!!! Popular Post lukeslens
I received mine yesterday as well! Ordered December 14th from Kitsune. The only thing I have to compare it to is my RME ADI-2 that I've had for a few years. I've never gotten to really hear an R2R dac before so this was my first experience there, let alone anything from Holo Audio, which I have coveted for years. I bought Cyan 2 as I have wanted a Spring for a long time but couldn't afford it. Unfortunately, I don't have one or have ever heard one to know how it compares to that, but I will tell you that, compared to my ADI-2, it is absolutely a major step up. I've only gotten to test it out for a quick 15-minutes as I've also wanted to let it burn-in, but my immediate impressions are that everything feels much more robust and engaging. There's no lack of resolution compared to the RME, but I can already tell that the "weight" of the music feels more substantial. In a way that I have spent many many hours trying to even EQ my RME to get close to this sound. Granted, I loved the RME, but my quick snapshot takeaway is that music through the Cyan 2 is more fun to listen to. Everything feels like it has more meat on its bones. It's hard to initially describe as I'm not a great writer or reviewer. I just know that it's delivering more than what I had hoped. I very much look forward to how those of you with Springs or Mays feel about this, because I want to know how close this gets to that, but I'm also happy to not have that comparison because I am intensely satisfied with what I'm already hearing in a super quick listen. Glad to hear we share similar impression on the Cyan 2. To be fair, I will let the Cyan 2 burn in for 300-400 hours in my bedroom system before taking it to my main system to compare with the IFI Pro IDSD dac. Both dacs will be connected to my preamp's XLR input and XLR out to my power amp and all I have to do is the switch preamp input and change NAA in HQplayer to swap between the two dacs. I look forward to that comparison. But I am very much enjoying the Cyan 2 so far!!! Link to comment

Especially as I personally don't have the same A/B'ing capability at the moment. I also probably only have the patience for about 100 hours max. Just based on what I heard yesterday I'm already dying to just dig into it, but work is going to prevent that largely for at least another 48 hours. dericchan1 1 Link to comment
