I recently started listening to one complete album from start to finish every evening. It's really great to sit down, no Internet, no phone, no iPhone, no i-anything and close my evening out with uninterrupted music. There's nothing like closing out each day on a great note, no pun intended.

I want to start this thread for people interested in doing the same thing. Listening to an album every evening and posting simply the artist and album information. Doesn't have to be a picture or the cover or a link or anything. It's more about enjoying this wonderful hobby.

Hi Guys - This thread is here to log any issues that you find with the site and to provide any feedback you wish. As usual, all feedback, good, bad, indifferent, is welcome.

It has been a long weekend and I'm sure I missed a few things in my final run-through of the site. Please let me know what you find. In addition, I still have a lot of housekeeping to do and will get to it as soon as possible.

A few issues I am working through:

1. Front page articles need some of the code that didn't transfer over from the previous site removed (it's still visible in some articles).
2. Article, not forum, attachments need to be re-attached (this will keep e busy for a while).
3. Blog attachments need to be re-attached (this will also keep me busy for a while).
4. I am creating URL redirect so some of the old URLs / web addresses will still work. Please let me know if you want your favorite thread to still work with the old URL (test to make sure I haven't created it already). 

Notes:

1. Support for the iOS and Android apps has been discontinued.

Hey Guys, those of us who've taken the plunge into immersive audio, either via headphones or speakers, often end up sharing our recommendations or what we're currently listening to, via email or text. We need a place in which we can share  this great music with everyone else, similar to the long-running Album of the Evening thread.

This is that place. It may be a little quiet right now, or dominated by a few of us, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. 

I'm currently listening to this one by Dave Mckendry. It's a really solid album, with a solid Atmos mix. The Blu-ray rip has a couple bonus tracks unavailable via streaming. I love the song islander and the acoustic version of it.

Quite often running tests on a system as a result of the music sounding off, calibrating, or just to display a waveform for fun. Sure you could use a digital oscilloscope, but it's a bit industrial to show permanently in the audio system. Then there's the grounding and isolation issues and on. Since the acquisition of a new power amp, it's lack of VU meters is making me miss that feature, and standalone VU meters are, well, not to my taste/difficult to find or a part of something more elaborate which is not really necessary. Not really looking for an accuracy or lab standard, but should be good enough to spot something out of place for modest outlay.

So why not use a small brick based computer, display?

Searching for various plugins like VU meter, DR meter, a scope revealed quite a variety of readily & numerous available options. Audirvana supports VST/AU plugins or even Apple Garage Band can, Audacity? Plenty of test tones available to check for out of phase, distortion, and if the scope and screen is good enough. might reveal noise. To drive these, thought to use the TAPE OUT from the preamp. Maybe an external ADC, but one thing at a time.

The idea is the metering doesn't form part of the signal chain, only parallel.

Could anyone suggest maybe a small 10" to 20in 4K monitor, brick type PC's that could be used, since the function of the tools probably wouldn't warrant an i9 for example. Also could use MAC MINI, but my patience for that OS is wearing thin of late. For display resolution a Pi is not quite enough, a laptop is out, physically, I don't have much depth to play with, and two prong power supplies cause enough drama. This scope would be connected to the wall AC, not audio power.

MAAT also have a standalone DROFFLINE DR meter. It doesn't do DSD, so presume only PCM.  Great thanks to John Darko for mentioning MAAT.

Frequency resolution = fs / N where fs is the sample rate and N is the number of filter taps.

So a 65,536 tap FIR filter at 48 kHz has a frequency resolution of 48000/65536 = 0.732 Hz. 

The frequency range spans 0Hz to 24 kHz (i.e. fs/2). So thinking of a FIR filter as a graphic equalizer: 24000/0.732 = 32,768 sliders for our FIR equalizer. Remember 1/3 octave (i.e. 31 band) eq's? Our FIR example has 1000 times the frequency resolution of a 1/3 octave equalizer.

A rough rule of thumb is that the effective low frequency limit of the filter is to multiply the frequency resolution by 3, which is 3 x 0.732 Hz = 2.2 Hz.

There is not much to gain (if anything) by using a 131,072 tap filter as the 65,536 tap filter is well beyond our ears frequency resolution and low frequency limit.

One can certainly try lower/higher tap counts, but 65K seems to be the sweet spot for DRC. You could try generating the same filter at different filter tap lengths and import the correction filters in REW and look at the frequency responses. You could also load them up in HLC for example and compare level matched filters of various tap lengths to see if you can hear a difference...
